Hi all... Plus single coil question
« on: July 17, 2008, 02:52:23 AM »
Hi all,

First of all, hello!  Until about 5 months ago, I had not heard of BKP.  I was in the process of building a Warmoth LP and some folks on the Warmoth Forum recommeded BKP.  I desided on a Miracle Man in the bridge and a Mule in the neck.

Absolutly love the sound of both of these pups.

I am in the process of building a Spalted Maple top tele and was looking at possible pickups.  I want to stay close to a Tele tone but I want to have a bit of extra bite, when needed.  What pickups would you suggest?

Thanks in advance.

Bill

Welcome - and that does look very nice.

Alas, I don't have any experience of the BKP tele pickups either. However, I do have a Baja tele that I'll probably do it to one day (even though I'm happy with it's pups anyway!!)

My current guesses/leanings are:
Blackguards if I want to go all-out-vintage-tele
Country Boys if I want to go for an allrounder that majors on country-type picking
Yardbirds or Brown Sugars if I want to go for an allrounder that majors on blues/rock

I suspect that Blackguards, for me, would probably do all three!

That's the sum total of my knowledge - might help you a bit (but not if you've already read all the same stuff I have!)

I believe that the early Blackguard teles by Fender where pretty hot pickups compared with the later ones that where associated with Teles. I think there is a thread about this (but I don't have time to look)

^ Yep, same here... (read it somewhere, and don't have time to look!)

It's why I think the Blackguards will probably do everything I want...

Whether they'll do what Riverbluff wants though... I'm not able to say
