Iron Maiden Tribute Album
« on: July 17, 2008, 04:03:20 PM »
I don't know if anyone else has had a look at this 'Maiden Heaven' CD in Kerrang! this week, but i think everyone should check it out, it's a masterclass in how to ruin 15 maiden classics (except for machine head and metallica). If anyone else has heard it, what do you think of it?

Sorry about the rant.

Downloading it now - Been waiting for this...

I'll give you my thoughts as I hear them...

Prowler - Black Tide: Can't stand the production on this, though their playing is pretty sound,  the vocalist is listenable but generally not too impressed as a cover, its not awful, but normally maiden songs play themselves....

Remember Tommorow - Metallica: Don't really like it to be frank, but its quite epic, not a big fan of hetfields voice generally, so maybe that's influenced me... I can't remember the last time I heard the original so I can't really comment on how much they've changed - But it definitely feels like a metallica song... Will listen to the original after this marathon...

Flash of the Blade - Avenged Sevenfold: Oh dear, this is odd, I have no idea what to think of it, I don't think they've changed any of it - Ambitious since these guys are no Maiden...

2 Minutes to Midnight - Glamour of the Kill: Generally - Taking pretty much THE most famous Maiden song = Bad idea, you're setting up for a fall, and this guy's vocals have none of Bruce's passion, he's singing it like a hymn at points.... The guitars are pretty raunchy - But I seriously think the vocalist has ruined what could have been a perfectly acceptable cover...

The Trooper - Coheed: Same as above pretty much.

Wasted Years - Devildriver: I can't stand this guy's vocals, not even good screaming... I have friends that LOVE Devildriver.. What do they see in them? That being said, the guitars in this were brilliant.

Run to the Hills - Sign: I actually really like this, completely different take on it, and I like the 2 vocalists, very interesting, like the ambient parts.... Quite cool... Really made it their own.

To Tame a Land - Dream Theater:  Again, no idea what to think.... Need to hear few more times...

Caught Somewhere In Time - Madina Lake: I quite like this one too, don't know what it is about it, just seems nice and polished.

Wraithchild - Gallows: This I never saw coming, don't really like it tbh, just everything that maiden isn't really =/

Fear of the Dark - Fightstar: Very clean, perfectly acceptable cover - If you can stand the image of Bruce singing for Busted throughout listening...

Hallowed Be Thy Name - Machine Head: Absolutely BRILLIANT.

Iron Maiden - Trivium: Has some good bits, some terrible bits, when he's not trying to sound like Pantera guy, its pretty good, I think overall its ok, I like the chorus...

Running Fire - Year Long Disaster: Hmmmm....

Brave New World - Ghostlines: Totally different, all acoutics, ambience and piano, really like it actually, its totally different, and very pretty.

i have to say i thought on the whole this was pretty cack too.

I heard Avenge sevenfold supporting Iron Maiden at twickenham - didn't really think they were much good.

Just kinda makes you want to go back a listen the orignalls and appreciate how good they are!

For some reason i dont mind the coheed one.

The metallica one is immense.

The fightstar one was ok until it got to the fast part.
