Pickup Matching to axe-type
« on: July 22, 2008, 02:18:22 AM »
Got a couple of BKP's - absolutely love my MM which is in a ESP LTD GL-500T (Sunburst Tiger) - Alder/Maple neck/Rosewood fretboard- rips, and is probably my favorite sounding guitar. Also have a matched set of C-Pigs along with a Sinner single coil (lower output) in an Ibanez Prestige RG2550GX - dark god of chunk tones - ofc, reminding me of anything Sabbath - but altogether not entirely what I was looking for in terms of sound (Basswood body, Maple Neck / Rosewood fret board).

Just picked up a new axe - Charvel San Dimas re-issue (Candy Tangerine). Tres sexy and exactly what I'm looking for - but I can't stand the DiMarzio PUPS (ToneZone and AirNorton) - was probably the single reason I got rid of my JP6 (hindsight is lovely, that was a mistake).

Anyhow, I'm considering ordering another set of MM's, but wondering how a C-Pig set would sound in an Alder body/straight Maple neck job (no rosewood) - it's bright as-is. Wondering if the dark/moody sound of the C-Pig would be a nice complement to the brightness of the guitar. Mostly play 80's shred.

Thanks, All.

Cheers -ZT

Why don't you try something lower output and slightly less beastly and slightly more 80s in the Charvel? I'd imagine it'd be fantastic with VHIIs.
LOVING the Mules!

I'd have thought the VHII would be too bright, and add to the brightness of the guitar and not be what the OP is after.

Welcome, btw

And

Nailbomb aint a bad call. Not sure you need A8, but it will increase the low end if thats what you want (though how you'd know that without playing a nailmbomb, I have no idea!)

Also,

Holy Diver.

Can anyone lnk or post to a couple of sound clips with a similar guitar running Nails or Holy Diver or VHII? Prob my preference would be HD's. but (likely) by the time I am through I'll end up owning a little of everything. I liked the suggestion for VHII's - sort of vacilating toward lower-output PUPs (welll, in comparison to my CWP's @ 21.2/17.7, resp). Most high-gain amps have enough balls to compensate for the lowr output pups. Thoughts?
