It says reproduces ts808 circuit....
so question one..does it sound like the original Tscreamer (before tweaking buttons)?

question two....noise gate any good?

Erm, I have one but I have never used a Tubescreamer and so cannot give you an opinion- sorry. As for nopise gate...I didn't know it had one  Though as I use minimal pedals I don't get a lot of noise anyway.

I have the V2 Route 66, which has the same overdrive, and an early '80s TS9 (not TS808) - but I haven't compared them I'm afraid.  Maybe martinw will chip in, he said on a thread the other day that he compared the J&H overdrive with a number of other Tube Screamer clones, and it was the best of them.

As for the noise gate, from reviews I've read (on HC, admittedly), it seems that it works well but most people turn it off (or down to the minimum level).
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Yes, I've got a J&H V2.
The J side is, in my opinion, one of the best TS808 clones around. The benefit is the bass boost which  makes the sound more balanced.
I've compared this with the ususal Ibanez reissues, Keeley stuff, and an Aramat Green Machine which I owned, and to me it was th best.
The noise gate on the H side works well on factory settings but I'll be turning it off when I get round to it.
All in all a great pedal, and great value.
Cheers. :D

I did some mods to a mkI J&H before xmas and it was just 100% a TS-808 circuit before I got my hands on it.

why what did you change

the older ones (without the deep switch) lose bass when the pedal is on, I changed some of the caps in the signal path to compensate.
