Reb Yell story

ok..I have been meaning to post for a while...changed strings today on RY Paul-had noticed a decline in tone and bite, and changing the strings did the trick-brand new axe
...no biggie,right??
-well, I had noticed this some time ago, but all of the other pups I have ever owned(and that is quite a few over the last 20 yrs) did not "react" the same when the strings went "dead"...In other words, they didn't sound bad...I would usually change because of how the strings felt..not because they sounded old..they felt old
-the fact that the REB reacted this way is a testament to quality-it is really dynamic..like a high performance engine that MUST have high octane to perform at its best
-my pup of choice for years was a "Pearly Gates"-..but they allowed me to "get away" with old strings-
-I also have a VH II,Mule, and MM-all the same in this category
-guess I have learned that this is a great"litmus test" for a pup-
_I feel better now, and I guess I will be spending more $$ on strings-gotta FEED THE KNUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I think you make a good point. Pickups are obviously a large part of the overall tone and when you improve the quality of the componants that make up your overall sound, it can show the detrimental aspects of other componants that you might not previously have noticed..a bit like cleaning your spectacles. This would be why others on the forum are noticing how cables can affect the tone where perhaps they might not have done. Maybe wrong but that is my thinking.

Very interesting observation Shaman, about the strings.... also the Evidence Audio cables are excellent, we have tested them against two other good brands and the difference is noticeable. It is another step towards Tonal Heaven!!!

yes,LU!!...I have learned this with speakers in the past, and it is cool to see pups do the same-I started playing EVm 12L speakers, which are highly efficient and do not color sound/break up,etc...my buddy told me,"man, this is going to be a lot different than those greenbacks you have been working for the last 15 years.."wow,what a difference it was-it gave me exactly what I was giving it--period...and that is what I have found in these pups
...now its all BK's and Ev's for me(or a Delta proV 12....a slightly warmer version of the ev...)
viva la tone!!!
