PRS SCs

Hello all,

Can someone tell me if there is a difference between a PRS Single Cut and a PRS SC245? I don't know enough about PRSs and am confused!

They're not making the Singlecut any more, it's been replaced by the SC245 and SC250. 

The 245 is like a vintage Gibson, with 24.5" (ish) scale length.  The SC250 is more modern, with the standard PRS 25" scale and higher-output pickups.

Cheers Philly. Are they massively different to each other then? I'm guessing not. I've been offered a S/H 245 and am weighing up whether to go for it or not - I've seen cheaper S/H single cuts and was wondering if there were differences in them?

I believe the SC250 is pretty much identical to the discontinued Singlecut, except it has different pickups and an adjustable bridge as standard (to allow for downtuning).

The SC245 is basically a lot more vintage Les Paul-ish (since Gibson lost that court case!) - shorter scale, PAF-style pickups, slightly thinner headstock and Kluson-style tuners.  It has the non-adjustable stoptail as standard.

They both have maple tops, thick mahogany bodies and wide-fat necks.

The SC245 seems to get slightly more praise in reviews, but then most reviewers are vintage LP freaks!  I'd have thought a S/H Singlecut is better value for money if it's cheaper, but it depends what features you want.

Both are avaliable with wide thin necks too. Also, the trem versons have thinner bodies.

The satin series are being sold off cheap, I have seen them new for around £1300

New SC series are chambered too - the old Singlecuts are not  :)

True.  There's no trem option on the SC245 or SC250 though, the Singlecut Trem has been discontinued (unfortunately).

Yeah, there's still the SE Singlecut Trem of course.  They seem to be using the SE range for "alternative" models, rather than it just being a budget version of the US range.  Which is good, but I quite fancied a "proper" Singlecut Trem.  I suppose it wasn't all that different from a Custom 22, apart from the neck joint - and PRS seem keen to keep the range as streamlined as possible, without any superfluous models.

still, that can be dodgy logic... often prices are inflated so that when they drop them it appears you're getting a good deal. :)
