Stuck with GAS.
« on: August 01, 2008, 04:08:27 PM »
K i recently swapped my Miracle Men which were in my Peavey Vtype and this was my main guitar. But as my musical tastes have widened i swapped the miracle men for a LTD Emeralds set and out them in my SG. now my Peavey has been sitting stringless for a while and i want to get rid off it.

Would it be best to try and sell it or to just take it to a shop for a part exchange. Part exchange gaurantees that i'll be able to get something soon even if it isnt worth as much as the Peavey is (I dont think it'll be worth much)
And selling means waiting around trying to find a sale which it still might not go for much.

Just wondering what you guys would do? Because I'm very indecisive!!

Part exchange is a TOTAL waste of time unless you really badly "need" to buy something in a hurry and haven't got time to make a private sale.  No shop will ever offer you what the guitar's worth because they have to be able to make a profit when they sell it on.

Say your guitar's worth about £800.  The most a shop will give you in P/X is about £500, because when they sell the guitar for £800 they're going to lose a big chunk of that £300 profit as VAT.  And another chunk of the remaining profit contributes to the costs of running the shop.

Whereas if you sell it yourself, if you're lucky you'll have £800 in your pocket.  Even in the worst case you'll never end up with as little as you would by P/X'ing it.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

go for the best of both worlds- sale on commission in a shop. you'll have to wait, but it should guarantee you a much better price than part exchange. some shops will do it for 10%, which isn't too bad.
