Who makes the best Push/Pull (or Push/Push) pots?
« on: August 03, 2008, 11:51:54 PM »
OK, we've talked a million times about replacing ordinary volume/tone pots with American-made CTS (or CGE) ones, maybe even those super-duper ones from RS Guitarworks.

But what about push/pull pots?  I haven't used any for a very long time, but I have a project in mind where one might be useful.  All the ones I've seen seem to be Japanese/Korean made, and need metric-fit knobs.  Is there one brand better than the others, and where can I get them?  Do any USA companies make them?

(Push/push would be even better, but the only one I've seen - this one - looks very flimsy.)

Any advice appreciated!  :)
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

CTS do make a push/pull but I think it only has 3 lugs on the base for the switch, so I'm not sure it's suitable for what you want (I think it's more useful for using in amps than guitars). The best I've seen are Yamaha pots (I guess these are the ones they fit in the SG series), they look like modified versions of regular full sized pots. Of course they are metric and very hard to find :?

And bloody expensive too - last retail price I saw for them was over £20 each

So presumably the push/push WD and Allparts stock isn't the Yamaha one.  :?

Nope. The Yammy ones I saw were like a normal CTS type pot but with a kind of brass cage underneath.

Remember that if you change the pot to pay special attention to the jiggery pokery of the shaft size.  Otherwise the knob doesn't fit..... as the actress said to the bishop and all that
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Oh, I know all about that!   Not an issue.

All I want to find out is who makes decent quality p/p pots.  :)

*bump* I know Warmoth carries push/push pots but I can't testify for their quality. But warmoth isn't known for selling cr@ppy parts are they? I'm quite interested in these myself for a future project.

Yeah, good call - I think they may be the Yamaha ones as they were selling them many years ago when no-one else sold push-push pots.

I haven't ordered from them in the past because it seemed funny ordering a couple of pots when they have all those amazing necks and bodies  .  But maybe I should.

Hi there

Maybe you should take a look here...

http://www.has-sound.com/parts.htm#Pots

And as he states himself,
"if it's not listed there it doesn't mean that he can't get it..."
plus, he's a nice guy! so you just might ask him, and from what I've seen and heard he knows his shite...
I ordered a ready wired special tele harness that is on the way right now, don't have it yet... but it includes a push/pull... I guess his stuff is american... but I'm not sure though.

What's a push/push pot? And what would you usually use one for? I know all about push/pulls, know ziltch about push/pushes

I would assume the PRS one should be decent quality?
