Tim - The BKP Fender Strat Tremolo
« on: August 04, 2008, 01:59:52 PM »
Hi Everybody,

though I would post the question on the forum because it's an interesting topic - maybe you'll have some time to answer, Tim!

I read somewhere that BKP can build a replica of the vintage tremolo assy .

What I would like to know is the exact differences to today's tremolos built and installed by Fender in their vintage range / Custom Shop Strats (as far as I know they are the same?)

There was a long and legendary thread about this one on the Fender Forum. To put it in a nutshell, Fender claims that their stuff is the same as in the old days (i.e. from cold-rolled-steal):

"The spring block on the '57/'62 VR Strats is exactly the same material that Leo used and the same that we've used on the VR Series since we introduced it in '82 - C1018 cold rolled steel."

Here are some pics from Fender:

I'm curious on your answers :-)

Hi,

got some answers from Tim.

BKP analyzed some mid 50s Strat trems. They found out that the hardness of the steel was significantly bigger than of the contemporary Fender replica units. Accoring to Tim this results in far more sustain and IMHO also some more shimmer.

Currently the trems are available in right hand version only, nickel plating. It has BKP stamps on the saddles.

£120 apparently. Pricey but probably worth every penny.
