Decisions Decisions...........
« on: September 16, 2005, 02:37:20 PM »
Hey guys.

I've got an Epiphone LP that used to be my no1 guitar (until I bought my Gibson LP and had my Gordon Smith LP clone made) and it currently just sits in it's case not getting played.

I'm considering selling it as I don't really play it all that much, but I wouldn't really get that much for it anyway I don't think.

It's always been a nice, solid guitar (plays well, stays in tune, looks good too) so now I'm thinking of putting a set of BKs in it and using it as either a backup guitar or 1 to string heavilly and keep in Eb.

I know this is an un-answerable question, but I guess I'm just looking for opinions as to what any of you guys would do in the same position :)

Thanx for your opinion :)

The Gordon Smith is a good guitar. It's not quite on par with my Gibson LP tone wise (the GSG isn't quite as 'woody'), but it's a great guitar nonetheless.

The neck is also a little thinner than I prefer, but aside from that it's good :)

It's alot better now it's got a Black Dog/Riff Raff in it :D

if yu decide yu don't want it, i'll have it   . I definately think yu should kit it out with some BKPs. i don't doubt that with them it will sound as good or better than your gibson!! (ultimate faith)

Thanx for your post :)

I may put a Emerald/Stormy Monday on it and leave it at that! :D

If it did sound as good as my Gibson, it'd be alot cheaper option for me than buying another 1!

I currently have Black Dog and a Riff Raff in a Gordon Smith LP clone am currently awaiting a Crawler/Irish Tour/Irish Tour set for my old Strat.

I generally play Classic Rock sorta stuff mainly. I don't use much gain, so I dont really need anything along the lines of a War Pig or a Miracle Man imo :)

I'd say you want a set of Mules. Tom's clips are great, he has Mules in an Epi Les Paul.

I'm planning on a set of Mules for my Gibson LP, so IF I do keep the Epi, I'd want something a little higher output or with a different tone. Hence the reason I'm considering the Emerald and Stormy Monday :)

I'd go for an Emerald set or maybe even a crawler set

The good thing about Epi's is that they can sound good and you are not so reluctant to take it out with you for a jamnight at the pub or where-ever

And not everybody wants to have a go on it - unlike the Gibson
Of course if you tell them that it has BKPs on it then they will all want a go.

I'm just about to load an Epi Gothic SG with Warpigs to put in one of our local shops so that people can try them out in a guitar that doesn't cost £1500+ and so they can see that they might enjoy a set in their guitar.

Well it also means that you can have a stock version sitting, and not have 3K tied up to demo the difference.

I am no h/b player but from what I have read and heard , a Crawler set seems to me to be the ideal solution.
