Hi everyone.
Soon, Im gonna buy a cheap guitar, either a Squire Affinity or a Vintage V6, and modify it BIG time to look and sound like David Gilmour's famous Black Strat.

As far as I know, there is a Seymour Duncan SSL - 5 in the bridge but Im not too bothered about that at this present time.

The neck and middle are Fender custom pickups I think.

Ill contact Tim soon but in the meantime which pickup would be good for his clean and overdriven sounds?

Im guessing Irish Tour just cos of the DC readings....I know I shouldnt just go on that though...

Cheers. Rich.

Another member of this forum (Aelian, I believe -- please forgive the spelling), has had good results with Irish Tours. When I emailed Tim with this question he recommended Apaches with the bridge having the optional baseplate, though. Personally, I think you could get away with a lot of different pickups depending on what era of Floyd or Dave Gilmour you're shooting for, due to the number of pickups and pedals he's employed (for instance, he's used EMGs, and he's used a mid-booster to approach humbucker tones). Lots of people, myself included, get away with using humbuckers for Pink Floyd stuff without a problem.

BTW, Pink Floyd and Dave Gilmour are awesome :D

IIRC Tim has made some Apaches wound a bit different or something for DG's tone :)

I asked Tim about the special Pink Floyd Apaches when I emailed him too, and he didn't know what I was talking about ;)

I ordered a prewired pickguard from Tim based on Gilmour's tone, and was recommended the Slow Hands. I ordered them with a baseplate also. They should be here soon, and I'll let ya know how they sound. Then, 1 week later, Fender announced the release of the David Gilmour Strat. Now I'll have that one also, lol
