6505 vs 6505+
« on: August 22, 2008, 01:54:06 AM »
I need to get myself a great metal amp and I've decided that these have the tones I am after for metal...

Does anyone know what differences there are tone wise between them?

I know there's a separate EQ for the rhythm channel, but I don't think that on its own is worth all the extra cash.

But with that extra pre-amp tube, is it more gain or is the tube being used for the EQ?

I'd do the research myself but the only means i have to get on the internet at the moment is through a mobile phone, so I'm in a bit of a tight spot!

Cheers to anyone who knows :)

I had a 5150 II (6505+) for years and loved it, and one of the maps i tried it against when i bought it was the 5150 (6505).

Neither has great cleans, but the mark II's are slightly better, and the seperate EQ's is worth it in the long run i reckon. From what my ears told me, the mark II had a bit more mid range too, and the gain was smoother, the mark I's sounded a bit fizzy to me.

All in all, the 5150 II seemed like a fine tuned 5150, but they'll both give you brutal distortion!!!!

Hope that's helped

k, the 1 has an extra gainstage circuit compared to the II, but you wont notice in the distortion side, just the cleans. Also, the II is a bit brighter.
