Say Hello To "The Preacher" Custom Build
« on: September 18, 2005, 03:32:42 AM »
:D OK here we go guys pics of my Custom Build from Feline. Ok it`s a PRS shape [my personnal fav !] it`s a Mahogany Back with a Maple         [ Flame] Cap. I`ve had Chambers cut out of the Mahogany to help lighten the weight. [ i`m told it also helps the sound] it`s a 24 fret Rosewood finger board. Notice that the Headstock is a reverse PRS style. The P/U`s are Cold Sweats, Trem Wilkinson, Machine Heads Sperzels. You`ll have noticed that there are no Knobs Johnathan hasn`t drilled them yet as he was waiting for me to make up my mind ! The last pic is the whole thing. Johnathan put it together so i could see what it would look like & make any changes before he does it all for real. Oh & yes It`s caled THe Preacher [ a private joke]

Looks lovely JT, that reverse headstock really works well, a very nice touch.
What sort of finish are you going for?

Another fine guitar from the Feline Stable! 8)

Where you able to plug it in and play it JT?
I'm keen to know how the CS set perform in a chambered guitar.

:D Hi guys glad `ya like it !

Ok Tim i`m going for a cepia [ i think thats how you spell it] burst  finish for those of you not sure it`s the colour of Tea i don`t want anything to heavy colour wise & it`ll only be on the face. The back will be left as will the neck natural just a light varnish. When i meet up with Johnathan in the week the guitar was empty. He had put it together so i coud hold & feel it & check over the cavity routes. i can`t tell you the thrill of holding a newly cut guitar ! it`s very organic & gives you an emidiate connection to it. The fret board absolutley blew me away ! the fret job is outstanding ! Johnathan put the thing together after our discussion & then sent on some photos for me. So at this moment i still havn`t heard the Cold Sweats ! but the knobs will be drilled shortley & then Johnathan said i should take the guitar away & play it for a week or 2 [ he suggested doing a gig with it ] he can then make any adjustments i might want before the finish goes on. [ Yes i`ll Post Pics when its finished] As for how much £1850

Nice guitar JT, nice work Feline.

I like the reverse headstock too, the finish sounds like it'll be nice too.

Nice one JT.  Great job Jonathan.

If you like the PRS swtching, but hate the rotary control, ask Jonathan to use the Megaswitch-P (StewMac sell it, but I think Schaller make it).  It gives you all the PRS sounds in a strat style switch.  I have it on my Warmoth PRS clone with a calibrated set of MM's.  It is so much easier than the PRS set up!

The guitar looks great,  the sepia burst will look great on it.  Like you, I prefer to leave the back wood clear, I don't know why PRS finishes a lot of them in a dark finish (unless it is to hide cheaper wood on the back!).

I am sure you can't wait to get it out and play.
So many pickups, so little time

:D Hi Phil i agree the PRS rotary system is cr@p. God no`s why they persist in it !

i was going to use a Strat style selecter but have decided to use a Gibbo style switch but it`ll be where the Knobs are [ slightly forward so it`s easy to use without having to jump over knobs to get to it]  It`ll have 1 Volume & 2 Tone controls + Coil split

I love the natural wood finish`s to the back of guitars it makes `em look like what they are made of wood !! i hate that heavy Polyurathaine varnish. it makes the wood look like plastic ! espiecaly when the back of the guitar is coloured ie; Black backs [PRS]

Wow! Stunning piece of work. Is the finish going to be something like Gibson's Iced Tea? That would look great. 8)

For knobs and switching I'd go for a single volume and a three way switch behind the bridge, Santana style.
