David Gilmour Strat

Does this peak anyone's interest? Would LOVE to own it, but with MSRP at $3,999.99, don't see it happening.
I have never been intrigued by artist/signature guitars nor am I a Fender owner, but if I was going to buy one, this one would be it.

Better off buying a MIM Fender, putting a new, £15 pickguard on it and a set of Apaches. Easy! Plus you saved about £1000+

I agree Badgermark. But, if I had no worries and $4,000 at my disposal, I would probably still buy it. (That will likely never happen. :lol:)

Being a recent convert to the Fender Custom Shop range, I'd say it's going to be worth the money.  Dave Gilmour has spent AGES spec'ing his Sig Strat up so it will be an excellent guitar.  Add to that the attention to detail you get from the Custom Shop and £2349 for the NOS version and £2765 for the Relic seems pretty fair to be honest!

Best woods, artist spec neck and pickups, perfect neck/body join, thin nitro finish etc.  You're getting a lot for your cash.

I agree it is a high spec guitar, but still seems expensive. When I heard that one would be NOS and one done to the tinyest detail i thought the price difference would be greater than £400ish.

I agree with you as well Twinfan. This guitar has been highly anticipated for a long, long time. From what I have read thus far, it seems as though Fender has done a very good job on this one. Plus, I generally like what comes out of the Fender Custom Shop.
Unfortunately, $4,000 is still $4,000. I guess I will just have to wait for that big pay day. :(

I agree with you both that it's expensive, but it is a Custom Shop guitar.  Look at the prices of the Jeff Beck Esquire and the Andy Summers Telecaster though, the Dave Gilmour Relic is a bargain compared to those!

I would imagine there will be a 'regular' USA production line DG Strat in the future.  That will be £1200ish?  That will be the big seller.

The limited run Custom Shop Relic will soar in value in a few years, mark my words....

For that kind of money I'd get a non-Gilmour Fender Custom Shop relic.  As much as I love Gilmour as a guitarist and as much as I love strats, black (or red) strats have never appealed to me.

+1 from me on that. I have never liked Black strats. Something about them doesn't look quite right.

Actually, you should try a few.  Mine really stood out from the other '58 Relic I tried.

I've tried a couple of Custo Shop guitars & have to say though while one of them was like playing velvet (a really sweet '62 white re-issue), the other played worse than my Jap re-issue. Now I recently saw a black strat & it made me gas for about 2 days before I realised that it was my love for Gilmours strat that made me Gas. I will try to play this, but I've gotta say that I'd rather get a jap vintage white '62 re-issue, finish my bitsa strat & get another amp with the money...it's just getting silly now

I've got my GAS under control at the moment though - I had a load of overtime that enabled me to buy a load of stuff, then it dried up - and I've managed not to spend more than the money that came in... But the overtime has started up again for the next 6 months or so at least, and the reward might well be the 62 vintage white Jap re-issue. Or possibly a different colour, or one of the 50's ones, or possibly a tele  - but definitely a Jap re-issue.

This Gilmour one looks cute, but just not for me looks-wise. Anyway, if I was going to buy anything "signature" it would probably be Rory, or possibly SRV (the Jap re-issues do an SRV style :roll: - I tried one when I bought my Fiesta Red 62, but I don't like gold hardware, and mine just had some sort of mojo...) - but I'd just feel daft playing a guitar looking like a copy of Rory's...
