Reading
« on: August 22, 2008, 08:17:58 PM »
Who else didnt get to go and is jealous? I'm watching the highlights from earlier on tv now and really wish I was there. Even though the bands arent great (until RATM, QOTSA and Tenacious D on sunday) the atmosphere seems great.. I think I'm gonna buy tickets for next years on Tuesday when they come out on prerelease :P

Fratellis are on BBC3 now, not my favourite band but the tone of their 335 and Les Pauls through what looks like hiwatts and black cats sounds GREAT :)

i would have loved to go this year for RATM.

we tend to do 2 year stints every few years then give it a break, i always like reading though

we would have been there this year but too many of my freinds seem to be getting married this summer, we thought there was a clash and missed out on tickets.. but the weddings were last weekend and two next weekend :(

I work near Reading & HATE festival week.  Reading is a dump at the best of times but its even worse when the great unwashed descend on it - all the crusties in their ancient dormobiles blocking the roads etc.  The whole place stinks of pi55 for weeks afterwards.  Perhaps I'm becoming intolerant in my old age, but I just wish the Thames would rise 20ft & sweep the whole thing away... :)  (it's a joke, people :D)

I did go & stand outside in '95 (or was it '94?) when RATM first played there...

That post makes you sound like a right miserable old fart Antag  I guess it would be quite annoying though if you lived there and had no interest in festivals..

I haven't been since what I believe was "the last one on the old site" (80s, some time?).

Sigh... SRV, we'd heard the name but we had no idea what he would be like. "Texas" meant ZZ Top to us. He played on the Saturday afternoon and BLEW OUR MINDS...

The first thing I did when I got home (after the obligatory "post-festival emergency poo", obviously) was rush out and buy Texas Flood (needed to go to a specialist shop to find it) - and it was even better than I thought it would be...

No my festival days are over. Instead I go to cricket matches at Lord's to get covered in beer and sh1t by some p1ssed w@nkers from Essex sitting behind us... - I'm getting old too Antag :D

Yeah, I know

I guess I went right off Reading when the "alternative"/"grunge" crowd hijacked it in the early 90s.  Perhaps it's gone back to being a "rock" festival in recent years, but my festival going days are over & the local disruption is just a pain in the arse (I always seem to forget it's festival week & get caught in some godawful traffic jam...)

Apparently RATM are refusing to have any footage shown on TV. Lost a bit of respect for them due to this.
I think I hate being indecisive.

In fairness, it's broadly in-line with their stated politics.
