Author Topic: Earlier problem sorted, now nothing but Hum! (Read 4733 times)

Hey guys.

I think I found a way around my earlier problem with the screws (shortened the screws and used springs instead of spacers) and that seemed to solve the problem.

I soldered the 3 wires left over fromt he scratchplate;

'hot' wire to jack socket
Ground wire to trem claw
Ground waire to jack socket

I plugged the guitar into an amp on the clean channel and got nothing but a loud hum.

I re-checked all my solder joints and made sure nothing was touching where it shouldn't be and all appears well.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should check next and ow to fix whatever is wrong.

Check the jack connections. The hot wire goes to the tip, the ground to the barrel.

Ditto,

White goes to hot/tip of jack and black goes to ground/sleeve.

I found the cause of my problem:

It was a dodgy jack socket!

I have a few knocking around and it turns out I mixed up the 1 I took off the guitar with an old 1 I had lying around that didn't work, and I didn't realise :roll:

I haven't got any strings on the guitar yet, but i tapped them with a screwdriver and they all work.

So I'm off to re-string it and give them a try out! :D

If I was less of a dunce it wouldn't have happened in the 1st place, but all seems ok now 8)

I'm still kinda expecting problems as regards my having to change the mounting screws on the Crawler, but atleast I got the soldering dun :D

The easiset thing to do is use the longer screws, get the height right and cut of the spare with a pair of snips.

Thanx for the idea Tim :)

I've managed to get a balance between the pickups as of yet, but I'll do as you suggest the next time I change the strings :)
