Slipknot - All Hope Is Gone
« on: August 28, 2008, 01:40:42 PM »
I'm really liking the Guitar tones on this album! Not my fave of theirs to date (I think the last album was vastly better) but some of the riffs are pretty good. I think Mick is using his signature RG's mostly on this album, not sure what Jim is using exactly but from the Digipack DVD he picks up a white Tele quite a bit. Haven't looked properly yet to see if it is a Fender or a copy.

Anyone else heard it? Whadda ya think?  :)

It's alright, a bit hit and miss. Jim Root is playing his signature tele for most of it.

Have to agree, it's a weaker effort than all the others imo. Gotta wonder if they're just churning out the albums now until they're album deal is up. It's a shame as they have such potential and a great dynamic within the 9 members, a lot of creative input to be had.

I'm sure it'll grow on me though. I'm still not totally into Iowa but things keep popping up that I've not taken notice of before that keep me listening, heh. :D

Never really liked them a whole lot either, but they did earn serious respect points after they allowed me backstage at one of their shows.
I was there to see American Head Charge, but during Slipknot's set we managed to fight our way to the front (through a feisty crowd of 16 year old's). My buddy held up his Iowa ID (this happened to be during the Iowa tour) and, being that we were in Germany, Corey Taylor came down from his perch above us and had the security guard throw us passes. Right in the middle of a song!
After the show, we weren't really sure where to go and Mr. Root (he is very tall) came out and recognized us from earlier and ushered us back. It was all very surreal.
Turns out, those guys were all VERY cool. They signed all kinds of stuff, gave us free shirts and the lot.
The guys from American Head Charge (who I was actually there to see- huge fan) were fully wasted but did manage to sign a dollar bill for me (which is all I had left). Actually pretty cool, because a few years later Brian Ottison passed away.

Musically, it's not bad. They're fine musicians.

I liked the first album because that was utterly insane. It sounded like 8 guys who escaped from a mental ward to start a metal band.

Jim Root is playing his signature Tele. Look it up on the Fender site. It's very reasonably priced.

I'll have a gander, thanks! I have to say my fave album is definitely the first one, it's mental!

Oh yeah, I said 9 didn't I earlier? Oops, hehe.

They didn't like black pudding?! Softies!

And I may be committing social suicide here but after seeing that Jim Root tele I actually don't think it's that bad. I hate tele's usually. They should still change the headstock though imo.
