my mate wants a £200 metal guitar, any recommendations?

personally I think he should stick with the cheap 2nd hand one he's got, it plays fecking sweet, anyway he's been looking at cheap ibanez RGs and it should be fixed bridge

ps on a completely different note, the database system at work has a supplier with the accounting code ENGL-001

i think it would be a waste to spend £200 on a guitar, 2nd hand if you MUST.. but save it and spend £500 and get something good... a jap tokai or something.

I got one of these - http://www.cort.co.kr/english/products/common/view.asp?product_id=119 - for well under £200 recently, as a backup guitar.  I have to say, it is fantastic for the money. If it was my only guitar, I wouldn't be unhappy.

In that sort of price-range, I'd recommend it.

Slighty at a tangent, but this would make an excellent metal guitar.  Epi SG already pimped with a Warpig set at Sounds Great for £299.  They've had it AGES so there's a deal to be had...

Especially as that price must be negotiable...

I can recommend the Ibanez RG321MHWK. The set up will probably need a tweak, but thats easily done, as per the owners handbook instructions. The all mahogany body and bolt on maple neck deliver nice tones, but not with the stock Ibanez Infinity pups. Rip them out and fit some Painkillers and he'll be in metal heaven.
Some UK outlets are selling them for around £175 now. Spend as much again on a set of Painkillers and decent pots and for around £360 all in, your mate will be more metal than he ever dreamed of  8)
Cheers

Pepends on what he wants and what he means by metal, and how much wiggle room he's got.
At and around £200 the Washburn WI200 Pro and X200 Pro are both good, Peavey does some well regarded stuff as well, there's the Cort KX5, some of the Vintage ones are quite nice. There's also the ESP 50 and 100 series guitars.
If he can stretch to £250ish then ther's some good stuff to be had, BC Rich Outlaw, Ibanez ART320 or SZR520, ESPs such as this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ESP-LTD-MH100QM-Electric-Guitar-See-Through-Cherry_W0QQitemZ300252598708QQihZ020QQcategoryZ33038QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
That SG is pretty sweet, but like I say, depends on what he means by metal. You'll struggle to play Hangar 18 on it.
