Making Youtube videos
« on: August 29, 2008, 04:15:00 PM »
Someone help me here. I am using a Toneport UX1. Obviously, I can record myself just fine using my webcam and Windows Movie Maker. But, how do I get the backing track to play as well. I imported the track to WMM but couldn't figure out how to get it to playback while I was recording.  :(

I haven't used Movie Maker, but can you import the backing track into a 'channel' and then record audio on another channel? Failing that can you not play along to the backing track (playing on a CD or something) and then import the backing track once you have done your recording?

Are you saying that you have the video imported into the software, but have no audio, and now need to import the audio ?

If so, that should be very straightforward. First, choose the "timeline" view of your video. You'll see separate tracks for the video and the audio.
Now, import your audio wav/mp3  into the current open folder (which generally covers the central part of the screen in the versions I've seen). Once it's in there, just drag and drop onto the audio channel in the timeline. Voila !!

Thanks Hamfist!

I will do it that way. I still don't understand why it won't work the other way though.

Basically, I am sitting in front of my webcam. Webcam is filming. I am playing through my Toneport (which I obviously want to be heard on the video). That's works fine. But, the backing track that I am playing along to cannot be heard in the video. How do I get the backing track to record as well? I am playing it through the player on my Toneport. Why doesn't it record as well?

Sorry, new to all this. :(

I suspect that it can only record 1 audio track and 1 video track at a time (they are designed for video editing rather than recording). Hence you need to import the backing track either before or after you record the video, if you do it after you can then line it up with your playing by nudging it around the timeline.
