Pickups for Kevin Bond Sig Rhodes
« on: September 02, 2008, 10:58:35 PM »
Hey guys i know eveyone is probably sick of people asking about pickup recommendations but i need help!

I know a little about pickups but not enough for me to make my mind up! I have a signature Kevin Bonds Jackson; Mahogany body, Mahogany neck-thru body with a ivory fretboard. I have decided to change the 'Iommi' SD and i am also getting a neck pickup cavity routed out. I was just wondering which bridge pickup will give me a brutal sound with a tight bottom, and it will also bring out the harmonics from the guitar. For the neck pickup i would like something which will give me a really smooth but hot sound.

Cheers guys

Ivory fretboard?!  :?

There are so many BKPs that fit that description. Maybe be more specific?

I think he's thinking in Warpig, if I'm not wrong... Mr Ted, our Down/Crowbar master uses one and probably is the sh*t... he has a Mississippi Queen neck too... Hey Ted, what do you say?
I don't know much Superjoint and am supposing that it's somehow near Down sound...

Ha sorry Ebony fretboard! Im sure you can see why i got mixed up there!

Erm im not to bothered about the bridge pickup having a wide range of tone just as long as the bass is tight with palm muting. It also has to rip your face off as well!! I dont know what else to say about the bridge pickup.

I would like a fair amount of range with the neck pickups tone. I really dont know what else to say.

If you cant recommend me some pickups from that then what are your favourite combinations?

I was thinking a bit heavier than Down and Superjoint ritual. More in the direction of Machinehead.

very cool axe... but i don't think you should rout that neck pickup ;)

maybe a miracle man, with cold sweat neck (if you must :) )

I was thinking the War pigs actually but there is a fair few pickups to choose from.
I need a neck pickup! I love the guitar but it doesnt feel complete!
Hmmm i think whatever i choose really is going to sound great but i just want to make sure that ive got the right combination that suits me and specs of my guitar.

My guitar squeals like a B**ch but im just not sure the Iommi really brings the harmonics to life enough. Other than that the pickup is great, very hot and the bass response is fairly tight. I just want a change though i think

Thanks thats my daughter.

Im going in the studio in about 4 months time to record an album with my band and i need that neck pickup otherwise i dont think im going to be happy with the tone il get. Im pretty certain that im not going to sell it. But even if i do it might put some people off but it might also save someone the hassle of routing it out themselves.

Ceramic warpig for the bridge: Crushing bottom with clarity and ceramic magnet brings out the harmonics very nicely

Cold sweat for the neck: No personal experience with this one except the popularity and raving reviews from other forumites ;)
