Music kit insurance

Hi,

Afer hearing about two guys on here geting some kit nicked,  its got me thinking about insurance for my kit.  Any one recommend any companies for musical equipment insurance.

I think that the Musician's Union scheme is pretty good.

Would be a good idea to photgraph , and get the serial numbers of all your kit anyway and have any really precious bits separately listed on your household policy at the least and check your car policy for carrying gear if you do it on a regular basis.

I remember Muso getting ripped off a few years ago - was v upsetting at the time

I used to get a good rate from my house insurance company, by declaring the gear in detail and then adding them as just another few items covered under 'personal  possessions away from home '.

The aforementioned idea of photographing and logging the details of each item really gives added peace of mind too.

Don't forget to list / photograph your stock of spare valves, speakers and cables / pedals too, as it's amazing how their value can quickly add up. Perhaps this later consideration applies more to house based damage / theft, but when I added up my 'spares' - it would have been cheaper to replace if the thieves had 'just' stolen a guitar off of me !

I have only heard good things from my lecturers about the musicians union. I will be joining myself at music live when we go
