Hss strat question!!
« on: September 10, 2008, 07:41:49 PM »
hey guys...
do you know if the hss sets available already come prewired with pots etc...on the scratchplate?

i have a 97 fender usa classic floyd rose strat and im thinking of ordering a hss set for it..but im very unsure of which set to get?
i was recommended the miracle man/trilogy/trilogy set..but with the m/man being a ceramic wouldn't it be too bright for the bridge with a floyd in there??

single coil wise im tempted by the trilogy or the irish tours...

need a set that will cover most bases from rock/metal through blues etc..

any help or assistance will be great!!

Tim probably has his reasons for reccommending what he did, and he's usually spot on. Whether it's "too bright" is a matter of taste of course, but lots of people have a Miracle Man in floyd equiped guitars.

You can get everything prewired if you buy one of the Prewired Pickguard sets. Just solder on the bridge ground and output jack and you're done.

i wasnt sure if the price of the set includes it all together or if it was just the pups on there own?

The price for the HSS sets is the pickups on their own.  If you want it prewired, you need to also buy a Prewired Guard (they're in the Strat Sets section of the inline shop).

Regarding the pickup choice, I think the Holy Diver/Irish Tour set is fantastic.  Holy Diver is a fantastically versatile pickup & sounds sensational in alder-bodied guitars.  You could also try getting it with Trilogies (I have an HD bridge with Trilogy neck in a Charvel) or Slowhands (don't have those, but will get them if I have another HSS guitar...)

Have a search through the Player's forum - I've posted a variety of HD clips plus an HSS "shootout" clean clip....

I have nothing but good things to say about the Strat Pre-Wired guards that I've bought myself:

Crawler/IT/IT

VHII/VHII (ina  Floyd Rose'd Strat)

Apaches

For an 'everything' set of pickups I would definitely recommend the Crawler/Irish Tour/Irish Tour set. On mine I have a push/pull pot to split the Crawler, and it does a really convinving single tone, so you can cover that base too :)
Selling lots of gear, enquire within!......

+1 about BKPs pre-wired guards.

I got one with my ITs, my first order. I wanted a new guard anyway so that I could swap pups around easily if I wanted - I looked at what BKP charged for it, priced up the parts separately, and decided that BKP's was good deal.

I wasn't aware at the time how much "personal attention" the standard orders to BKP get, though. I'd assumed that they'd slap "stock" ITs into a "stock" prewired guard - and I would have been quite happy with that for the price. However, I use the middle knob as master tone and leave the bottom one disconnected - I could do it myself easily, but I added something to that effect in the notes on my order, just in case it was possible.

When it arrived, it was all beautifully assembled, exactly as requested, and the "spare" pot hadn't ever been soldered to anything - they hadn't rewired a "stock" pickguard, they'd put the thing together for my order, no extra charge. I was very impressed.

Absolutely, man. One of the main things that keeps me coming back for more BKPs is their attention to detail and customer service. I was really happy when I ordered a set of Mules for my Eclipse, and I didn't know whether I needed long legs or short... but the guys at BKP did :)

I agree 150%..im currently using cold sweats in my les paul custom...and i love them to bits..
i run a mark cameron modded marshall (aldrich mod) and the amp's general tone is superb..with the les paul i can more or less nail sykes current tone..

i spoke with tim about a holydiver and irish tours set for my floyd strat..i think that may work quite well..i dont want anything too hot in there and i think those will work well..
