VHII riffcollection
« on: September 13, 2008, 07:17:58 AM »

I was just riffin away recording this morning and took a 3 minute piece out of it.

VHII set in Edwards LP, only the bridge used here. Played through the Axe, with a modded 80s marshall model but replaced the tone stack with the Trainwreck one, cool feature (and I am a bit proud to having found this cool combination).

Played through Bogner 4x12 and an SM57 close. No FX, overdubs or post processing of any kind, except limiting in the master.

Exceptionally good tone in my opinion, with organice bass thats there but tight & fairly even midtones.

I am having Blackmachine B2 made (mahogany body maple top) soon and am going to buck the trend and put low to medium output pickups in it for more headroom and dynamics. I am scanning this forum daily for clips off VHII's & Black Dogs as in my mind somewhere between these two lays the answer.

Good to hear someone grooving

Hi Martin,

I think that's a tough call. I never played a blackmachine, but it looks like a damn thin guitar. Actually not sure if the VHII in that guitar might be ... well ... too thin too? What wood is the neck of the B2? Not sure either if I'd put Blackdogs in anything but a Les Paul. Somehow I am thinking Mules for your Blackmachine.

You should check with Tim, he has much more experience and maybe he already served a Blackmachine user.

Good luck and - ey- thanks for the nice comments :O)

Hi Hunter

Blackmachine B2's have a rosewood neck which is unusal but well worth it on the tone front. The bodys are thin yes, however the choice of materials does not leave the sound ending up thin. I am certain I want a pickup with an Alnico 5 magnet which rules out the mule lovely though it is.

I am looking for a bridge pick up with roughly equal trebble and bass response and a slight mid peak. The neck would then be wound accordingly. Anyway sorry I am turning your fine clip thread into a hunt for my pickup thread I shall stop it lol

Hi Martin,

yeah but this is an interesting call, you should make a separate post as I am sure some other folks in here can give good advise. And anyways, whenever the word "Blackmachine" comes up in the thread, everyone reads it :O)
