Mule - Pig 90 comparison clip and some twangier pig 90 stuff
« on: September 14, 2008, 04:28:11 PM »
This is the first attempt I had at mic'ing my amp using my Presonus interface so its not perfect yet, sounds a little dull to me. Anyway heres a comparison of the bridge Mule and Pig 90s. Mule in an Epiphone LP Custom, Pig 90 in a Pearl LP Custom. I think I prefer the Mule on this track as the Pig 90 sounds a bit too compressed/metal with these settings.

And heres the Pig 90 with the volume rolled down (theres a bit of neck MQ there as well as middle with both pickups on). I have a cap on the pot so it doesnt lose all the treble, makes it twangier at lower volume pot settings - better than the coil tap actually! Its like the strat I always wanted :P I actually prefer this sound to the full on Pig 90 right now, maybe I would've been better off with a bridge MQ, or does that sound smoother than a pig 90?

Playings pretty shite cos I was just jamming around testing out the mic and stuff.

It's no secret that I like your taste in tone. Nice full bodied and crunchy on both guitars.

I'd say keep the Pig. To my ears, that was a great twang tone, and we all know how good it is for stoner rock.

Yeah it can be quite versatile. I just have this weird ocd type thing where I like all my knobs to be on 10 all the time, I feel weird if they arent

pokey as in it's got some serious grunt to it, sounds powerfull and not really P90'ish at all.

would be perfect for Sabbath stuff.

Ah right I see now, yeah its great :) when you have the volume on full its pretty much like a thick humbucker but not quite as tight with a softer "feel" to it if that makes sense. Tim said he can do em with ceramic magnets if you want it tighter. I personally dont think the coil tap is that useful so I wouldnt get that option - with a cap across the volume pot (cant remember what size cap I used) it gets twangier the more you turn it down, basically the same sort of sound that the tap gives but with more options :)
