Handwired TS808...
« on: September 20, 2008, 05:14:26 PM »
looks well made, but possibly one of the most pointless excecises ever.  word round the campfire indicates that it sounds identical to the current PCB reissues...

It must be good its hand wired. Hmmm sarcasm doesn't word on so well on forums.

I think the guitar world is going through a bullshitee stage, in which unless its hand wired, analogue, old or all three its cr@p.

I prefer to use my ears

There is a saying 'a fool and his money....' - quite frankly a TS7 sounds like a vintage TS808 (I have both - and neither cost me more than £40 (as I bought the TS808 2nd hand in 1985))

I reckon  a couple of designers at Ibanez have had a couple of J's, looked at all this "boutiqueness" surrounding old, hissy, noisy pedals and thought, "I bet if we build it, some muppet will buy it AND think it sounds better than the original. Lets have a larf eh??"
Sad thing is, I bet people already have. Shoulda brought it out on april the 1st. And don't get me started on "relicing", ie a new guitar that someone has dragged round a car-park for you ,let go rusty and then charges you EXTRA for the privilege!! For some of the money they ask you could go to Doug, Jonathan, or Wez and have something built for you that is exactly what you want, definitely better built and is built for you, not to the taste of some player who isn't you.

Don't underestimate how much easier it is to play around with circuit component values in a hand-wired circuit.
So for folks who actually want to play around with the circuit it would be useful, but otherwise it wouldn't seem to have much of a use.

^  That's what I thought too Alan.

And Bob, not everyone wants a custom guitar.  I certainly don't.  Put the whisky down now  ;)

That actually happened to a Danelectro Mini pedal I had.

How come I'm not surprised ;)

As for modding the pedal, personally then I would buy a kit and mod it as I would not be modding a $300 pedal (as to spend that it would have to be perfection personified in the 1st place)
