I'm not sure, I still think it might be the Blackguards.
From Phil's description of the Boss set (I've not tried them though), he was saying "Roy Buchanan". Now, that's a fairly "ice-picky" sound on the bridge - my Blackguard Flat 50 bridge doesn't produce quite that sound, even on a maple board, it's still the top-end, but it's got more body.
Other than that, HTH, I do exactly the same as you with the tone control :D (the volume control does some good stuff as well...).
On the feedback-prone front Cholo - I don't think anyone experiences microphonic problems with BKPs under reasonable circumstances. If you did, I get the impression that BKP would look on that as problem that needs fixing.
Obviously, with single coils you're going to be picking up some hum (televisions, light-rigs, and so on) that you don't get with humbuckers. But in my experience (and I live in a house where the wiring was specially designed to piss off a strat/tele player!) the BKP singles seem to handle that better than other pups I've tried.
