New Pedals
« on: September 25, 2008, 10:21:22 AM »
Well, it's my 18th birthday in just over a week, so I think I'm gonna get some pedals.

I'm looking for a phaser, a chorus and a tremolo. I already have a phaser and a chorus (EHX nano small stone and EHX small clone), but both are FAR too limited in my opinion and are basically one trick ponies.

So I'd like some ideas for upgrades to these, and I'd like some ideas on a tremolo.

Some pedals I've been looking into are the EHX Stereo Polyphase, the Visual Sound V2 Liquid Chorus and the Catalinbread Semaphore Tremolo.

Are each of the pedals any good? Anyone got any better ideas?

Thanks in advance

There are some fine youtube clips of the semaphore tremolo. Sounds awesome but it's a bit picey.

I haven't tried any of those you mentioned-my experience of visual sound is very positive though I have a trem. Mine is a T-Rex Tremster. I impulse bought it to be frank and wondered what the hell I'd got it for and then started to use it and ended up loving it. I have heard it described as "buttery" ( and images of Jilly Goolden and her absurd pronouncements upon the merits of a certain wine sprang to mind) but immediately I heard it I got what they meant. It has a lovely warm rich sound with a slight compressing effect. Got mine for £45.00 on the 'bay. I am not saying get one cos I have but I would certainly include it in your shortlist.

I'm pretty much an ignoramus about pedals, but if you're considering the Visual Sound Liquid Chorus why not go for the H2O?  It's only 20 quid more but you get the same chorus plus an echo pedal, in one unit.

The only difference is that in the H2O the chorus isn't stereo - instead you get a second output jack to send a dry signal to a second amp.
