New guitar help
« on: September 27, 2008, 10:26:38 AM »
So I am in the market for a new LP (preferably). Looking for anything in the 500-700 euro range. I play mostly blues and rock. I was looking at this for 699 euros.

http://www.thomann.de/de/esp_ltd_ec400vf_tsb.htm

I don't know much about ESP but that guitar is sexy. Plus Earvana compensated nut and the SH-1 and JB humbucker combo that I figure I could sell on ebay as an advance towards some BKP's!
Of course, I am open to all other suggestions in that price range. I have about a month to look around and debate it over. What do you guys think? Other suggestions?

another good option for  anew guitar is tokai... but the 400 series LTDs are pretty nice.  they arnt exactly the same as a normal LP tho, they are a more modern take on an LP.  if you want a more accurate copy of a gibson go tokai

I do like the PRS but now you have me going above my limit.
Tokai's are nice guitars, but I find myself wanting something slightly different this time around. That is not to say that if the right Tokai comes around, that I wouldn't jump at it.

Looking at that PRS again, I really don't like the position of the toggle switch. It seems so far away. I imagine it makes wiring it up a bit easier though.

I agree with you Opprobrium. I think it is spectacular. I was in Thomann last week and thought that the photo didn't do it any justice. The finish was absolutely beautiful. I want it.

Dude I have got to say I have played that guitar. If its the one with JB in the bridge, and even with Seymour duncans in it it sounded hot. It is truly a good guitar. One thing worth mentioning about it is that it has really good higher fret access. Different than normal Les Pauls. Id go white but seems like you like that finish. Put some BareKnuckles in it and you will love that thing for life. It is a sturdy instrument that will last you a very long time. Or should at least

Yeah Mikey, she is a beauty. I have a thing for Tobacco Burst LP's, I have wanted one for sometime.
It does have a SH-1 in the neck and SH-4 in the bridge. The ESP's, like stated above are bit of a more modern approach to the LP so they allow for better access to the upper frets.
Plus, I really like the specs. Earvana nut, grover tuners, SD pickup set that I will be able to leverage for a pair of BKP's.

I am starting to break out into a cold sweat.

Well Praise the Lord brother and go for it. You want to knock Cold Sweats into them?

Its hilarious how in this forum most of us swear by Bare Knuckles. We talk about other high end pickups like they are plastic or something. Ha

I swear by ESP Les Pauls. Mostly because I require a guitar have 24 frets, so it's one of the few ways I can get a shortscale singlecut and still have my 2 octaves to play around in.

I'd say pick one up in the flavor you like, and I second the idea of cold sweats in an Eclipse. That combination is just too raunchy to pass up.

I literally had to turn my computer off to keep myself from looking at the EC-400 Tobacco burst. I won't have the funds until the end of October and to be frank it is killing me already. It is just a sexy guitar.
I am already thinking about the pickups. I had an SH-1 and SH-4 combo earlier and hated it. The SH-1 was ok but the SH-4 just wasn't my thing. I am a blues and classic rock player and almost always wind up going the low wound vintage route. But, this guitar has me thinking crazy. I have been thinking Black Dogs, Cold Sweat's, or Nailbombs.

That's the same sort of thing happening to me - have you tried Mississipi Queens? I can't remember, and they're not in your sig...
