« on: September 30, 2008, 06:42:30 PM »

..went with unpotted Mules-looking for a vintage Paul tone in this 91 Classic Plus-got it!!!!really loving the dynamics of these-I really dig in..a lot of hybrid picking..and I like to hear the string spank the plank-these really deliver
...no squealing either!!!!awesome cleans-well balanced tone-can hear the wood...cool vibe 8)

Bootiful, just bootiful!  How do they compare with a similar output humbuggy that's wax potted?  Have you tried them with high gain???  If, so what are the results?

thanks,friends-I have a potted mule and I really cant tell much of a difference-both smoke..I havent had a chance to a/b yet...as soon as I can , I will report-I have Boogie Mk II amps ..lots of gain...and I have had no squealing issues, of course I do not use a ton of gain-I plan on giving it a good test drive later..will see if I can get her to squeal like a pig!!

That looks very tasty. I usually prefer covered humbuckers, but that looks kinda righteous... :D

thanks andy!
-just got finished with a good test drive-did get into squeal territory when the pre amp gain hit about 6.5-7 on my Boogie Mark II-it was the sweet feedback at the end of a sutained note kind of squeal-controllable and fun!!I was going for kind of an Angus in a Paul tone and I believe its here-this is my low to mid gain axe-I was contemplating Stormy's,but I am such a fan of the Mule this seemed like the right choice-lots of bite in this classic-had to turn down the treb a bit on amp -sounds great!vintage and angry sounding-not modern sounding at all-have a Custom with a potted mule and it has a touch more sustain and modern sound in comparison :D

Cool 8)
Can you do any samples with high gain?  I use high gain (ZVEX Box of Metal) and like feedback but not sure to go with potted or not.

do they give the same 'unpotted like' qualities?

yep, unpotted pickups will give you that same quality of the guitar 'coming alive' at higher volume/gain.

btw, that clip nails Angus' tone to a tee - must be the guitar, I believe Angus likes '67s too.

hey!yes, they have that edge of outta control about themselves, but I would go for the potted if you a box o metal guy-the potted mules are killer and would not squeal-I have used my Mule in a Jackson PC-1 in high gain applications and it smoked!!def. the way to go for high gain

Hi Luis, very nice looking guitar.  I have unpotted Stormy Monday's in my 335 (with covers though), but they really do have that vintage vibe and don't create squeally feedback - just nice controlled harmonic feedback.  I'm sure you'll be loving the Les Paul.  Phil

That's indeed instant Angus. Love that vintage SG tone, very classic.
