Finally something is being done about this, i remember when all this was happening.

Hope it all goes well.

I believe that you should get at least half pay if you give them good notice and get a letter from the police.

I was a Human Resources Consultant until recently and had to deal with something like this about a year ago
An employer is under no legal obligation to pay you.
I would imagine most organisations wouldn't pay a temp to go to court as a large amount wouldn't pay their own permanent staff.
There is a government form you can fill in that allows you to claim back your lost salary from the courts at a later date.
They should give you some details when they give you the date in writing.

The Police just rung? They want you to stand in for Andy Summers?

(sorry, bad joke)

Sounds like it should be a good experience, good luck on the day man.

That involves quite a few criminal records then (particularly the solo albums)

What I will say is that if previous experiance is anything to the chav will turn up really late, in the hope that if the witnesses don't turn up the court will dismiss the case.

My sons court case (he was assulted by a couple of chavs) had the person (term used loosely) in question turning up 2.5 hours late then pleading guilty. The other 2 victims didn't even bother turning up.
