Ceramic Holydriver = Duncan Distortion?

hi, lots of people says(duncan forum) that the SH-6 Distortion pickups is basicaly a JB with ceramic magnet, and since the HolyDriver is a like a original and improved JB i guess it will be similar? or not  :?

Well for starters, the holydiver will sound much nicer than a Seymour duncan... :P

I don't know much about the SH-6 Distortion humbuckers, just that i'm pretty sure they have a pretty high output. Now the holydivers are fairly hot too, i think they give out about 16k output, which is quite similar to an SH-6 I think. Although this doesn't mean they sound similar.

To be honest, i can't really comment, as I have played Holydivers, but never SH-6 distortion pickups, although I should think Holydivers would sound considerably nicer... :D

I don't know if the HD is a JB improved. It would be a more balanced JB in a strat, but in a LP it plays on the features of the guitar even more. Low mids + compressed highs.
Is the RY an improved JB? Bright + cutting, but specs are different, as one coil is vintage wound I think
Nailbomb? Crawler? I think they could all cover JB territory, just some are better in certain types of guitars.

the old ceramic holy diver was 13.5k, so I believe it was based on the dimarzio super distorion (which would sound more like the album)

the painkiller is the one voiced like the sh-6, but thank Tim it doesn't suck like the duncan
the duncan distortion is one of the muddiest pickups I've played
a shame for the known clarity of duncan pups

I had a ceramic Holy Diver and it was more aimed at a DiMarzio Super distortion i think being 13k something. Great for 80's metal.

i have a MM and the DD is NOTHING like it, way too diferent pickups

I've never played the old-spec Ceramic HD, but I do have the Alnico HD in several guitars & the DD was my longtime pre-bkp favourite.

IMO the HD is roughly comparable in terms of output & harmonics, but being Alnico its much much warmer on the clean channel & has a much fuller & fatter lower midrange.  It's more versatile & dynamic (despite its power).
