Has anyone had any experience with the Emerald humbuckers in a strat?
They seem to have a really rich warm tone from hearing them in a Les Paul,i just wondered if they would still sound beefy in a alder bodied,maple necked strat.I would like to stay with the fairly low powered humbuckers on this guitar.Cheers.

In a Strat, especially a maple fingerboard, I'd go for an Abraxas Steve.If you're enjoying the Mule then the Abraxas is very similar just with more power.The extra juice helps feill out the Strat, especially in the lower mid and helps produce a more balanced tone.
Emeralds are Alnico V and lower output so would emphasise the high end more.

After hearing Steve's clip of a Mule in the bridge of his Strat I was fairly convinced of getting one put in the bridge of my Squier Strat (No.2 guitar) - I need something to complement the Apahes in my Fender Strat (No.1 guitar) so I can cover songs that need more of a heavier tone but still keeping a vintage sort of vibe. Are you suggesting an Abraxas would be better?

BTW the Squier has a rosewood fingerboard. I was thinking of replacing the neck and middle with the ones that came out of my US Strat to make way for the Apaches.

It all depends on how much gain you actually need. The overall tone and vibe of both The Mule and Abraxas is in the same ballpark, it's just the Abraxas can generate more gain.In a Strat The Mule will sound brighter and possibly a smidge clearer whereas the Abraxas will have a touch more bottom end grunt.Both would match well to the Apaches.

Thanks for that.The strat the Mule is in is Alder body/Maple neck and sounds really warm,natural and not overly bright.I think ill check out the Abraxas set soon.Cheers.

As with all these things, timber varies so much so the best thing to do is try it.If The Mule sounds good, the Abraxas will sound equally as good but with more juice and a slightly fuller bottom end.
