Plastic Guitars
« on: October 08, 2008, 08:16:14 PM »
I was watching the One Show earlier & it had guitars made from recycled plastic on.  So I just had a pop on the guy's website to have a look at the specs & low & behold he sticks BKP's in them   :D

They're called Simon Lee Guitars by the way.  I'm not sure what I make of them yet.  What do you guys think?

I think every plastic guitar I've played sounded dreadfull and had rubbish tuning stability.

Some of those are pretty though.

i played a few at a guitar show a couple of years ago.  Very nice they were too.  They have a solid maple centre block a bit wider than the pickups between two sheets of the recycled plastic material and a fairly standard bolt on neck.    the plastic is for aesthetics and ergonomic and it has solid wood where it needs it!!

Those are cool

But I dont trust the big dumb vibration inhibiting chunks of plastic, certainly not when the bridge is set in one.

Troof is in the toane though.

They had Joe Brown playing them using a clean tone.
Tonally I thought they sounded a bit thin, but it would be a bit unfair to judge from a short clip.
Would make an interesting option for something different.
I just need to convince the girlfriend that I need a plastic guitar to complete my collection..

i actually saw that last night, i normally make a point not to watch the one show on the grounds that it's shite, but for some reason i happened to be in the living room when it just happened to be on...

i'd be sceptical, but wouldn't discount them until i'd tried one... :)
