Any Roland Cube 30x users?

Hey guys.

My trusty Marshall practice amp has finally died and I need something to replace it.

I tried 1 of the smaller Cube amps which had 4 tiny speakers and drum patterns in it, but then I came across the Cube 30x in an online shop and it looks like a decent amp for the money.

Has anyone got an opinion on it, or maybe even alternatives in a similar price range that I could look into?

I think we have had this discussion on here more than once. I have a Cube 20X and love it. For the money you just can't beat it. It is a great amp and the ideal practice amp.
Alternatives- Vox AD15VT, Fender Vibro/Super Champ

I think there was another thread too, slightly more recently.   If I was buying for myself I'd go for the 30X (based on specs and research rather than actually trying out the alternatives, I must admit).

I have tried the Cube 60 at our local practice rooms, awesome amps, so I can imagine the 30x is going to be pretty good too. I've not tried anything to compare, but based on what I've tried I'd say Roland Cubes are the Daddy for the price.

I agree totally with Kellar on this one.  I own one as well and it is awesome for the money.  Many effects, decent tone (no tube tone, but you aren't paying for that).  I highly recommend it.

I managed to track down a 30x today and had a quick 10minute blast on it.

I liked the sounds from it, but I think it might be too loud for what I need it for  :lol: I also managed to try the smaller Cube RX (4 speakers and stereo amps) amp and think that may be more the volume/size that I need.

Although it's more expensive than the 30x because of the built in drum patterns etc  :shock:

What kinds of tones you want?

The 30W valvetronix have power attenuators in em so they can sound good quiet

IMO it goes like this

Cube > VT for metal

VT > cube for everything else

VT XL > all the others for metal but cant do anything else.

I don't really have any set tones in mind to be honest.

The amp that died is 1 of the little Marshall MG10CD amps with a 6.5inch speaker in it, so I'm sure any of the 1s mentioned so far will sound better than that did!

My usual style/tone tends to not use too much gain, more 'vintage' I s'ppose, but I do sometimes whack the gain up just to fool around sometimes  :lol:

It does higher gain pretty well. It just doesnt have the chunk and thickness that the cube does on its highest gain modes.

I've just read up on the AD30VT on HC Reviews and alot of people are complaining of poor reliability issues with the amp, which I hope is a few minor incidents and not something that happens often.

Gain wise, JCM800 is about as high as I go, so i don't really need the Rectifier mode on the Cube amps for example. Would the Vox do this ok in your opinion?

1 issue I have is that I've tried both the Cube amps mentioned, so I'd have no qualms ordering 1 off the net to save £50, but nowhere around here sells the Vox, so it's be a blind purchase if I did go for that 1. That.s why I'm trying to be sure I get the right 1 for me :)

If its for home practice only and you have some kind of interface, Amplitube 2 might be worth a go. Not an option I'm afraid as I'm moving out of home soon and my PC with all my audio software and interface is staying at home.
