yo. im new here. i just wanted to post about my BKP tinkering, in case someone else finds it relevant.
so, i live in south london, i knew about BKP's for a while but id never played em. popped into wunjo guitars and spoke to the staff, they use black dogs and emeralds on a regular basis in their own guitars, so i had the opportunity to try those. i didnt like the black dogs, but the emeralds sounded sweet! i ordered a pair for my 90's les paul custom.
my les paul had all sorts of squealing issues when i was playing live. in contrast, my gordon smith for gibson 490R and 498T pickups was rock solid at dealing with feedback. i wanted my les paul to be the same. i got the HB humbuckers out and put the emeralds in. so much better! i play in a hardcore and these give me some sweeeeeeeeeet tone. i use a marshall JCM800 2205, mesa dual rec, and soldano avenger. the mesa has been my gigging amp recently and the emeralds are awesome through it. (im currently waiting on some CTS pots and sprague orange drops to wire in)
i decided to try out a miracle man in the bridge. for me it had way too much low end to it. so i put the emerald back in. not long after i swapped mypeavey 6505 for an LTD ec-1000. i decided the EMG's sounded aweful and rewired it for passives. 500K CTS pots. 0.022uf orange drop cap. i wanted this guitar to be my 'workshorse' for when i need to fly to gigs and im too worried about flying with my les paul. i got a seymour duncan 59 in the neck, since i dont use the neck much live anyway. and i put the miracle man in the bridge. SOOOOOO much better. the thinner lighter body cut down the bass characteristic of the miracle man, and it balanced out perfectly! im really pleased!
im going to recommend a miracle man to my bands other guitarist for his gordon smith. im still debating a different pickup in my les paul. maybe abraxas. but ill wait and see how much difference installing cts pots and new caps makes.
thanks for your time!
