Nope.  Sorry  :(

I respect his playing, but it's not really my cup of tea.  I'd rather listen to Chuck Berry  :D

In a thread with more than its fair share of surprising comments, that's... one of the more surprising.

Is it???  Am I the only non-fan of Gilmour on the board then?

It wasn't really the Gilmour bit, it was the Chuck Berry bit.

I mean, I know Chuck was influential an' all, but (no offence intended to anyone) I can't imagine actually listening to him.  I just don't find his music entertaining at all.  I'm not sure why - I think maybe it sounds more dated than other music from the same time.

I think all the original designed guitars have both good and bad points. It seems to me that there original design spec are all but set in stone for fear of upsetting the 'traditionalists'.

Strats have good and bad points in my opinion and so do Telecasters. Don't get me wrong I think Telecasters are cool, but those bridges they fit on most of them that are impossible to intonate is just not on for me personally. There is no reason why for donkeys years each string couldn't have had its own saddle.

Oh no harks the 'traditionalist' it wouldn't be a propper tele without duff saddles.

Someone pass me a gun :)

Fender have made telecasters with individual saddles for years, they are just not proper telecasters without three brass saddles  :D

+1

I've had six saddle versions in the past.

It's only since getting the three saddle type that I've nailed that "tele" sound. Now, that might be my imagination, but...

Also, it helps that I've had no intonation problems with the barrels :D

As you can see from the picture I hate strats.  In fact I hate them so much that since taking this I have bought 2 more!

Now that's what I'm talking about...

Your Les Pauls the other day were very nice, and I'd happily take them off your hands, but for pure guitar porn, this is where it's at for me

Actually, having used the word "porn", I realised all this "like"/"don't like" of various guitars is much like a chap's taste in boobs - I do not like big boobs, for example, I find them a real turn off.

I'm happy to admit/discuss this sort of thing in public, but I realise others aren't, so I shall refrain from starting a poll, but I suspect that there might be a correlation between taste in breast size/shape and taste in guitars... I do feel the scientific community might benefit from such research though...

I think you may be wrong there, because, while we share a favoured mammary size, I think you and I have somewhat different tastes in guitar, Andy! :)

Personally I'm very fond of strats and love the shape of them.

However I think familiarity breeds contempt, which isn't helped by all the strat copies whether budget versions or high end

Around 1980 every starter guitar was a LP copy and even on TV it was LP style (or Yamaha SG family) and strats where definately more exotic than they are now.

I have decided that for the most part I'm a single coil person (who detours into humbuckers)

The minute I posted I thought - "I bet Roo's gonna blow this theory by having the same tastes in ladies chests as I do..."

But either one of us could be a deviation from the norm maybe? Perhaps the research still needs to be done?

Where would we get a grant for spending a few months looking at boobs/guitars?? I'm sure, in the interest of science, we could keep our own prejudices out of it.
