FX Loop in JCM800?
« on: September 24, 2005, 11:27:22 PM »
Has anyone ever had an FX Loop added to their old JCM800? I recently purchased a 4104 combo and I'd like to have an FX Loop for my old echoplex and H&K Replex. Can it be done without affecting the overall tone?

For a very basic in and out it's easy. The problem is you need some way of dropping the level so it won't overdrive your effects, and then a way of boosting the level back up after your effects. To be able to do this you either need anoher valve or some chips to buffer and drive the effects loop.

www.tubeampdoctor.com sell a variable FX loop kit that can do this.

There's a kit for one from Torres... thing is, apparently their amp kits suck... I don't trust them

I've heard not so many good things about Torres either. What about London Power Scaling? They sell a tube FX loop kit:

Effects loop?

Why?

;)

I've got a 4104 as well, great amps IMO. THe FX loop is a common mod, your local amp tech may be able to sort it for you.

A simple mod will work fine with rack (line level) effects - make sure you tell them what you're using in the loop!
