gwEm's headless selection (including new Steinberger GP)
« on: October 23, 2008, 02:02:51 PM »
left to right:

hohner g3t with cold sweat bridge
stock r-trem bridge. i had plans to put a trilogy in the neck, but plans change and this guitar may be for sale soon. pm if interested. currently detuned to drop c# for 'teh br00talz'

spirit by steinberger gp with painkiller/sd 59
recently upgraded with handmade fixed bridge by jon bondy. had this guitar for ages, its an old friend.

rebuilt steinberger gp with miracle man set
jon bondy bridge again. original 80s body refinished a few times, most recently by feline in creamy white. contemporary moses graphite neck, fitted by feline. non-original chandler's pickguard wired by me.

hohner b2a with emg active/select
80s original again. the emg active in the bridge is an original steinberger one. i like this bass.

you wouldn't use the meat knife on crusty bread but, equally, the serrated knife and straight edge knife aren't going to go through raw meat as quickly

heres some more pictures of the rebuilt gp. its an absolute joy to play - i love the feel of the graphite neck. the neck and the fixed bridge give a real piano like tone, and its got great sustain. the miracle man set is a good match. overall i'd say its a real gwem guitar.

old favourite spirit by steinberger is maple neck through, and has a very different sound. but they did a good job on it, and the playing experience is quite close to the original.

it took ages to get all the parts for the rebuild, and its a marvellous instrument. i still have some reservations about it, but lets face it - these guitars rarely come up on ebay. i prefer the GP shape to the classic GL, obviously due to the flying V alike look. i'm sure the sound is rather different - maple body vs hollow graphite. i went for the off-white colour to be the same as my favourite colour for flying vs. it gives a 70s looks, which nicely offsets the futuristic look and feel the instrument generally has.

originally the GP guitars were MIJ. this one is MICAS (made in croydon and shoreditch :D)

i still really like how you re-did the neck bolt area, looks totally stock even if it isn't quite.
