Bridge pickup for Meshuggah type sound?
« on: October 29, 2008, 07:35:43 AM »
Hi guys!
I'm looking for a bridge pickup in my handmade guitar.
Guitar specifications:6string,ash body with walnut top,set on walnut neck, ebony fingerboard,Schaller floyd rose system.
I love  the tone of Meshuggah but i also like Sikth,Protest the hero,Nevermore...
My first thought was a Lundgren m6 set,but i'm interrested in BKPs too,so maybe you could tell me witch would be the perfect for me.

What tuning to you use, and what gauge strings?

Cheers

The Painkiller springs to mind, but other options include Miracle Man or Ceramic Warpig. There are probably others that would also do (nailbomb, for example), and I'm sure someone will come in very soon and correct my suggestions :)

Best bet is to contact Tim to ask his advice. He is wise in the ways of pickups!

Painkiller

Disclaimer: meshuggahs sound is heavily influenced by the 30" scale guitars, POD and post processing they use.

I use gauge 12 for drop C, and i'm tempted to get thicker. Although I have always been a fan of thicker strings.

There may be another pickup that can do it just as well or better, but I dialed in a serious Meshuggah tone the other day with my C-Pig.  Mira w/C-Pig --> Bad Monkey --> Uberschall.  Bloody insane!

If it's Meshuggah, then Painkiller without a doubt. The thing djents like nothing else.
