quick wiring question
« on: October 30, 2008, 02:45:59 AM »
so I just got a pair of buckers and am trying to decide how to wire them.

My guitar has 1 volume, 1 tone and a 3 way.

I was thinking getting a super 5 way and wire both for coiltap, but 5 way super switches are kind of hand to find here.
My other option is to ditch the tone knob, replace it with a push pull and wire it as this diagram.

Can one of you gurus tell me how that'll work? Does it tap both pickups when I push the switch?
How do I decide which coil it taps off?  Is there a way to wire RP for some kind of hum canceling effect when the coils get tapped?

Sorry for being such a noob, but this is my first time peeking into the back of my guitar. ;)

cheers

I'm having some difficulties understanding my original wiring,
are the spots in the red circle grounding spots?

in the first pic some wires are soldered to the casing of the 3 way switch,
in the second pic I'm not sure what's going on, is the longest tip the Hot output and the shorter tips the grounding points?

P.S.
Any ideas on how to make this work in a 1 volume 1 tonepot setup?

http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/choosing-installing/tech-tips/spinasplit/

It only shows how to control coil split with 1 pickup directly wired to the volume and tone(which acts as a split control now).
How do I work a 3 way switch into it?

arhghghghgg~~~~!!!! There's Too Many Wiring Options!!!

The circled points are grounds.  You can tell the ground wire as it is the one with no insulation and is wrapped around the live or hot wire.

To do the coil split, use this diagram:

Their web site has some very good wiring information.

I wired my H H Flying V so it  has a push pull pot on the Vol pot and a standard Tone pot with a 3 way switch... i just went off the standard SD wiring diagram for it.

sorry it's just that my jack doesn't look like anything on diagrams or pics of generic output jacks I find online,
can you look at it and tell which one is ground? (the wire already came off, I know, stupid of me.)

I think the general consensus is that the inner portion is ground (in my case, the short legs) and the outter portion is hot output(the longer tip in the pic), correct?

I wired it like this but after I plug it in, all I hear is buzz,
however it stops buzzing when I play a note, then as the note fades the buzz comes back,
any suggestions?

You've possibly got a ground loop in there. Check all your solder connections, and if possible connect all grounds to one single ground source (and don't have any wires joining ground to ground!)

hi, I had a bunch of grounds joining on the back of the volume pot, but the connection is loose, I just made sure it was stuck to the back of the pot nice and tight, and now it sounds ok, thanks.

Hi, can you clear something up for me? When i set it on the mid position and pull, it's both buckers split then?
Thanks dude.
