New Martamp day!! ... well, I'll be picking it up tommorow morning actually but Martin sent me some teaser shots this evening so had to share ;)

I know he will be gutted to see it go because the colour scheme matches his carpet, skirting and door so perfectly.

I do like the white.

How come custom builders don't build metal amps? Or at least, I haven't seen any. And by metal I mean the br00talz!!!(etc.)

^ i don't want to put words in anyone's mouth, but i'm guessing because they're generally a much more complicated circuit, which'd take a lot more time (and hence money) to make. Most of the high-gainers aren't handwired... (bar stuff like cornford)

that's a really nice amp, by the way, white is awesome.

Nice one Will, thanks for the comments. Martin was a bit concerned that the white will not age gracefully and will look grubby fast but I bullied him  :lol:

The trouble with very high gain amps is noise and having to be so very careful with signal paths to keep noise etc to a minimum
It is very hard to do with a hand-wired amp - so much easier to control with a PCB and that usually lends itself to larger makers.

S'true though.
The other reason I wouldn't do a metal amp, is that when you have that much gain, the subtle nuances of a hand wired amp get overwhelmed by the sonic carnage.

because metal doesnt require good tone, obviously! :P

Seriously though, that amp looks great :D I really want a martamp build of some kind, a Ceriatone Bassman is currently on my gas list after listening to a lot of Social Distortion :)

Interesting  reading about high gain amps, I know it's not exactly 'handmade' or maybe even not a high end bit of kit in some people's opinion but I LOVE the 5150 high gain tones.
