Recording, need equipment.
« on: November 03, 2008, 05:06:42 PM »
I've spent far to much time hiding from it, my computer recordings sound cr@ppy.
now ignoring the fact i can't actually play guitar i think the problem lies with my microphone, its just this simple old thing i found lying around the house plug straight into the recording socket at the back of my mac mini, this of course give cr@ppy results so i think its time to bite the bullet and buy my self a mic and audio interface.
So what should i be looking for, i know audio interfaces can be expensive but i'm not looking to spend more than £200 if i can help it.
i'm not looking for something amazing either, just something that will work. but anyway any help is appreciated thank you.

A Toneport? Then you can either mic it or just plug your guitar in. Plus there's the different packs that are cheap, for rock, metal, etc.

For Audio interface, EMU are good. I have one, it's great for the price.

EMU 0404 is meant to be good for the price, although I have the EMU1616M which is great.

M-Audio and MOTU have some good stuff. I'm using an M-Audio sound card, and it's pretty decent, especially for the price ($200 USD).

Edirol UA-25EX might be an option, its what I plan on getting soon :) Get an SM57 for mic'ing the amp, its pretty much the standard.

Toneports look ok but I dont like the look of the gearbox software tbh.
