looking for an amp
« on: November 03, 2008, 11:32:25 PM »
Firstly, I know this is not the right place to post this, but I don't know how to post in the 2nds out forum ...so...

Now onto the topic, I'm looking for a used line 6 spider valve combo, preferably the 112.
Give me a shout if you've got one that you wanna get rid of. :)

you have to apply for access to the seconds out forum.. i cant remember where exactly you do that though, someone will know..

I havent seen many of the spider valves kicking about, you might find it hard to get hold of one used.

Sorry, can't remember how to join the Seconds out - think you may have to ask a mod for approval.

However, I found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Line-6-Spider-Valve-x-112-Amp_W0QQitemZ270295868442QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270295868442&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

It's not mine, neither does it belong to anyone I know, and I'm not making any recomendations about the seller either, it's just an example of what's out there.  :)

You need to PM Ol

A lot of people dont rate Line 6's too highly, but I didnt know that until after i got into them!

I didnt mean to buy a new head, but after not playing in a band for a few years I was getting back into it about a year ago and went into guitar Village with a mate who was looking for a new practice amp. He ended up coming out with the 30watt Spider 3, and I ended up with the Spider 3 75HD. I used it for a while and loved the versatility at home, but it just didnt cut it in rehearsal so upgraded to the Spider Valve 100watt head, and I think its great!

Sure, some of the factory presets are pretty odd, but you can get some pretty good tones with a bit of tweaking. At the moment I only have 4 main presets, but we are just about to move into a new rehearsal space where we can be LOUD so am looking forward to setting it up properly with about 8 usable presets and maybe 4 'wackier' ones. The SV rules!

Good to hear! How would you describe the voicing on it if you had to compare it to another high gain amp?
I think it's good to use your ear and buy gear without prejudice. :)

Ive never really used High Gain amps as such-my tone is more of a 80's/90's rock thing, but the SV seems quite capable of going from clean to ultra high gain pretty well. The effects are probably not as good as stomp boxes, but it is a revealation plugging straight into an amp after years of fiddling with stomp boxes/9v adaptors/patch leads etc!
