Hey guys, Xmas is around the corner and I think Im going to give myself pair of BKP as a present. This will be my first set of BKP, I've had Duncans, EMGs, and a couple others in the past but I like all I've heard and read about BKP, been mulling it over for a while, and I'm going to give them a whirl.
But I am not so sure what would be the best set/combo to put in. In the past Ive had Fender, ESP, and even a Jackson guitar but currently I only own 3 PRS, a Cu22 Rosewood, a Cu22 Hybrid, and an SCT Rosewood. The SCT Rosewood has #6 pickups in it and of the 3 sets of PRS pups I own they are the ones I'm least impressed with (I have Dragon IIs and VB/HFS in the other two). While I think the rosewood neck adds warmth to the overall sound of the guitar I still find the pickups harsh on my ears and thin sounding.
I play in a band that does a mix of original stuff and covers, with a style along the lines of Muse/Porcupine Tree/Isis. Generally longer stuff, with a mix of aggressive and softer, clean and heavy parts. On some songs I use a fair amount of effects and on others none at all.
So in other words I'm looking for a something that can sparkles when clean and can handle the heavy stuff well with a good amount of crunch (who isn't looking for this though?), but in addition to this I'd like something that can add some presence and "fatness" to the sound. The SC Trem is chambered, and has a maple top which I suppose adds to the brightness. I am not looking for an 80s metal sound, nor a scooped mids sound, but something that is fat and heavy but also mean and crunchy - think Jimmy Page through a Krankenstein - but compliments the warmth of the IRW neck. Am I asking for too much?
