Just placed an order, what do you think of my choices?
« on: November 07, 2008, 10:42:31 PM »
Hey people I've placed an order for these, would like to hear your opinion

Guitar- PGM301
Wood- Basswood

Pickups and tone desired
Bridge-Miracle man- Lead - Gilbert
Middle- Mothers milk - Strat - Hendrix
Neck- The Mule- Warmth - SRV

Here is the e-mail i sent Tim if you could help me answer the questions that would be much appreciated

Hi Tim!!

I've come to a decision

I'd like to order

Neck-The Mule Humbucker - Warmth (SRV)
Middle-Mother's Milk Single-  Strat    (Hendrix)
Bridge-Miracle Man Humbucker- Lead (Gilbert)

1.I would like to know if i could have ALL these pickups in aged nickle/distressed, I'm not sure if that is the correct term but i would like them to look like this, I'll happily pay more
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/warpig-distressed/69699

2.I have a 5 way switch selector on my PGM301 so i would like the single coil to be splittable between positions 2 and 4 so it works with the neck and bridge, please assure me this won't affect the single coil when it is in its own position (3)

3.If you could tell me the exact pickups i have to order and how much it would come to that would be MUCH appreciated

4.Can i bring the pickups to you for installation, or do you not offer that service?

5.I'll ring up over the phone as i feel as if I'll definately get what i desire, will i talk to you?

Thank you VERY much for your help and I look forward to your reply

Interesting combination. Mother's Milk and Mule should go well together, but I don't know how they'll pair with the Miracle Man in output and sound. You'd have one of BK's most modern sounding pickups in the bridge coupled with pure vintage in neck and middle. Most people prefer to be able to flip between the pickups without sounding like you're changing guitars. But if you know what you're doing, by all means go for it and don't listen to me. If I were you (and I'm not, I know, our tastes may differ) I'd go for a Mule set with a Mother's Milk in the middle. Paul Gilbert uses low output pickups nowadays for a more dynamic sound.

And yes, I believe you can still get distressed single coil covers: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=763.0

Could you guys give me your opinion on what the difference is between the (Bridge Pickup)

Nailbomb
Miracle Man
Warpig

I'm looking for a gilbert like tone (Racer X, not his recent stuff)

Tim has recommended the Miracle man, unless i get any replies here to do otherwise i will take Tim's advise ;)

Miracle man, Tight + sharp / cutting. Precise
Warpig, warm, full on, and seems quite responsive to pickup height.

Haven't played nailbomb.
I would also echo what ilÿti said, why so high output, when PG uses vintage to vintage hot type pickups?

I thing Antag tried mixing a Miracle man bridge with low output single neck and found that the same amp settings wouldn't work for both

I'm looking for his racer X tone, in which he used Dimarzio super distortions, which are very high gain pickups.

Thats not very high gain is it? I haven't tried it, but that is (I've heard) comparable to the old ceramic holy diver. Speak to Tim about it a bit more. I can't say I know much in that area.

Miracle Man is ceramic so has tight bass, smooth mids and bright highs also more power than the Nailbomb

You have a couple of choices here-Gilbert uses low output humbuckers these days but to get his Racer X tone I would recommend the Miracle Man humbucker-other good choices that would suit your Ibanez would be the Nailbomb and the Holydiver humbucker.

Both from Tim himself, i think people assume the miracle man isn't as high gain as others just because it doesn't have the word war or bomb in its title :P

if your playing mostly leads, I think the holy diver will be unbeatable, just like the cold sweat neck for leads
