Did a recording with the SG / RiffRaff today, using "Das Metall" model (Diezel VH4) on the Axe FX:

I still cant believe that the sounds these things make is coming from  a modeller.

Nice tone & clip.

I'd get one if the price wasn't higher than a full rig lol

Sounds good!  It just seems to lack some that 'sparkle' and transparency to my ears, but that could be rubbish speakers/EQ whatever.  Certainly impressive for a modeller.

Can't remember if I've asked this before, but what does it 'feel' like to play?  Do you get that interactive response you get from a valve amp?

Feel is amazing, really!

I think that's where the main difference is between a fullrange amp/speaker thing, it won't feel right I guess.

However, Atomic are about to come out with their new tube driven Fullrange solution, which according to LA Amp Show attendees is pretty awesome.

I'm gonna have to agree with Twinfan here, the clip seems to lack that extra little bit of openness that a tube amp has.  I guess sparkle would be the right word here, as Twinfan noted.  And this is coming from a guy with really good quality speakers (me).  I have to say i love the tone though.  It is really amazing that you can get that with a modeler.  Just imagine, in ten more years you wont even have to buy an actual amp because the modelers will be so good they will actually be BETTER than any amp you can buy... a sad thought :(  I will stick to tube amps for now though.  Thanks for sharing man!

Sure man, to each his own :O)

Gotta say though that everything is clear by the sheer fact that I haven't played my Bogner Shiva head more than a few minutes since I received the Axe, which was several months ago. And the Shiva isn't really bad an amp either.

I think the thing I find with modelled things is the kinda too perfect/sterile tone....also perhaps a sense of space/openess missing? maybe I'm just talking rubbish though! I just love the sound of a valve amp being cranked and pushed to its limits  :P
Otherwise nice clip and nice song!

The bad thing about a modeller is that it always sounds too much like a synthesiser, to my ears. Maybe it works for some guitarists, to each his own...there's no such thing as 'better' or 'worse' in this case, as far as you can get the most out of your instrument with your own feeling/playing style.

The most important thing for me is to hear the acoustic purity of an instrument. I play Les Pauls because of the thick bluesy tone and solid playability together with a nice tube amp; it gives me a basis sound which I love so much (just like with acoustic guitars). From that point it all comes to your own fingers/attack/playing style/personality to make it sound how you want it to sound, preferably with only a few (2/3) pedals/effects.

A good electric guitar is like a good acoustic guitar, with all its purity and tone. I wouldn't hide that with a modeller or too many pedals/effects. Simplicity.

I think it sounds pretty amazing Hunter!

Saw your post on the Diezel forums first. It was recorded with a solid state poweramp yes?

so, through something like a VHT 2/90/2 etc, it'll sound even more incredible and get some of that valve feel :D

Those of us saying it sounds sterile or lacks the sparkle/oppenness/transparency of a valve amp, I wonder what the response would've been if Hunter had said he'd recorded it with an actual Diezel VH4 amp?  :?

Nearly all the recorded music we hear has gone through some kind of digital processing at some stage, after all....

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

hmmmm, difficult. On the Axe you can activate/deactivate power amp sim, in case you use it with a tube amp. However, you lose the modelling of the different characters of different amps' power section, the sag and thump as well as the possibility to crank that plexi to 10. I mean if you can turn that VHT up full, yeah, that might be better. But as I can't, I'd rather go with all modelled, except for the guitar speakers.
