The clips you record with the axefx are hardly sterile sounding. I can't tell the difference between this or a tube amp. I've been listening to a lot of the clips on youtube too and this thing is unbelievable! It's giving me gas, badly  :?

Sounds great

Is this DI'd or is it through a cab and miced?

Sounds good!  It just seems to lack some that 'sparkle' and transparency to my ears, but that could be rubbish speakers/EQ whatever.  Certainly impressive for a modeller.

Can't remember if I've asked this before, but what does it 'feel' like to play?  Do you get that interactive response you get from a valve amp?

Feel is amazing, really!

I think that's where the main difference is between a fullrange amp/speaker thing, it won't feel right I guess.

However, Atomic are about to come out with their new tube driven Fullrange solution, which according to LA Amp Show attendees is pretty awesome.

Oh - are Fractal Audio and Atomic amps part of the same company?
I know they have the same distributor  in Europe

I have an Atomic Reactor 112 - 18w  to use with a pod or Vox desktop modeller

As usual mic'ed with an SM57 off a Bogner 4x12, amplified with a Carvin DCM 1000W amp.

Jonathan, indeed FAS and Atomic have the same distributor, and they kinda collaborate, but that's it. They are different companies as far as I am aware. Guess the Atomic guys realised that the Axe community i growing rapidly and that there is loads of discussions about the best amplification solution, plus the Axe users are in general no compromise kinda guys that are willing to spend what it takes to get good tone.

I think there is room for other companies too to come with good products that hit into that Niche.

Well, its still sounds great, but its as I feared.

The amped tone, when working with a speaker and a mic, is really good, but there are amps for that

What I want is a DI tone that can at least go a little way (unlike previous attempts like the pods cab and mic sims) to emulate that change in response and dynamic.

All the DI tones of the AxeFX I've heard have been fizzy  (feel free to prove me wrong, but thats what I've heard so far).

Looks like a better amp-replacement + FX than DI modeller, from my research

That's for what I use it. Others achieve great results recording direct though. For me it's more a feel than a sound thing. I need a pumping and buzzing guitar cab to get the shizzle moving in my fingers :O)

Hunter, if you'd be so gracious could you point me in the direction of any DI metal clips of the Axe FX you've heard?

Like I say, I was impressed by this, but its got a poweramp and a speaker and a mic working. and that makes a world of difference - as you know, I'm entertaining buying one of these, and it would need to be better at DId tones than I've heard it be so far.

Hmmm for a great heavy, direct recorded Axe tone, maybe try this one (not by me): http://www.fractalaudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2646
