Ceramic Warpig compared to the stock Warpig Alnico 5:Much the same-more 'presence'/edge/sizzle-sounds slighty higher mids, same enormous bottom-I've had to lower bass settings on my amps for both types of warpigs compared to my old sd invader sounds... Don't misinterpret this as a gripe!
I've always been a fan of high output passive HBs, although I tend to lower them deeper into the bodies so that the extra power is a little 'chilled out'...
Lower powered PUs closer to the strings have the same effect, so we're getting into the realm of personal taste, here...
-I like the sizzling sustain of "metal" chords, and the single note to chord contrast of HIGH OUTPUT-
I get this soundgasm from High Output pickups straight into the amp that allows me to grind detuned deathmetal without resorting to additional distortion devices, and they seem to naturally compress-
The extra edge suits my low tuning (ADGCEA)-I had Steve recommend ceramic mags, as his brother uses 'em to play black/extreme/death metal, with good reviews...I wonder how they would function under standard tuning, or different amps?-I can't tell you- maybe the ceramic edge would be too much for some folks-
-The cover is a factor in the sound- I know now that I like them-
Consider also the guitar itself's influence on the end result
- the possibilities are endless -
both axes I'm comparing are walnut bodies with maple tops, neckthru's-
I would suggest ceramic mags for icepick/blackmetal talons-on-the-chalkboard edge, or the A5 for fluid 'PAF-on-amphetamines' fullness, and bear in mind the fine tuning you can make with pots and caps, too.
-Perhaps I can A/B them in a soundclip?-
Would be soonest after the weekend, when I'm here next, but would like to see if you could hear the difference.
Hope this helped a little...
