Yep I find that to be the problem, no one seems to be serious about it and if they are, then they're into shiteee music  :x I'm considering jamming with this br00talz band for a bit though just to get into playing with other musicians again.

yeah, i always wonder whether i'd rather be in a band regardless of the music, or whether i'd rather be in no band... i think i'd rather be in no band, to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I'm willing to compromise a bit- i wouldn't have a problem being in a band which played classic rock, or blues rock (considering my favourite music seems to be 80s rock and metal), but i'd draw the line at indie and alternative... apart from anything, i can't really seem to play that style of music properly, it doesn't really come naturally to me... so to add insult to injury, as well as playing music i didn't like, i'd have to practice like mad to play it too...

It's not just the drinking Dave, it's the inability to realise that they're in their 40's not there 20's anymore, so its pills and powder too not too mention the constant joints and fags.  You get to the point where not communicating 'cos they're so out of it. Frustration is the theme for most of these rehearsals. The thing is though they can do it when they're reasonably sober! So yes i do get a massive buzz off it. Especially when all the amps are cranked, there is nothing else like it and could get very addicted to it.

yeah, i know what you mean. i'm still in my 20s, and drinking all the time/not taking it seriously would annoy me too, i've never much been into getting wasted. :)

The last "project" I was in was an ABBA tribute band a few year back.

God I hate ABBA...

Mark.

Sorry about the late post but i had to pick up on this.

I would love to play in a ABBA tribute band. That would be cool. Well not cool but i would really like to do it. Ive liked ABBA since i was little. I saw a tribute band called 'Bjorn Again' in DisneyWorld Florida and they blew me away. Its definately a guilty pleasure... maybe i need help.  :D

I was in a band until fairly recently. We spent a while in the studio and did quite a few gigs. Was good fun when everyone clicked. Sadly there were more stressful times than happy times. The singer was a good singer but had an ego problem - you could say it was insanely rampant. One of the last gigs I played at was awful. We had a 6 song set list (there were 10-12 other bands on an all day bill) that we had rehearsed. The band before us dared to do a Damien Rice song (our singer loved Damien Rice) that we had played a few times. Our lovely, ego-less, singer then declared that he could sing that particular song much better and wanted to put it into our set list. For me this was the height of bad taste and completely the opposite of my reason for loving music and playing live. This wasn't the first time that there had been a problem with attitude - insisting he couldn't carry his own guitars and amp as he might strain himself was also a pretty funny one as was the constant slagging off of established artists (i.e. with record deals) and local musicians.

Anyway - been bandless since and although I miss playing live and rehearsing with other musicians I really don't miss the constant ego problems. Maybe one day I will find a band that is as laid back as I am!
I think I hate being indecisive.

...  well, I can't stand ABBA.

However, playing the stuff was pretty cool.  From a guitar perspective, there were lots of nice interesting phrases and parts to play.

I just can't stand the "niceness" of the songs.

Now, I'd DEFINITELY play in a Carpenters tribute band!  There were some amazing guitar parts going on there!

.... Or Sabbath, obviously.

I've played in a band for a week, on a course thing. It felt alright, it was more rock than my sort of metal would love to see if I could play in a metal band. One of those days I guess.

I actually jammed with those metal guys on Wednesday, was pretty fun actually despite me not enjoying learning the covers they wanted me to, its fun when you play it in a band with mates somehow.
