General BK question
« on: November 15, 2008, 04:32:54 PM »
Hey, here is the situation..

I have a 3 pickup SG... the Hums that came in it had very thin wire coming off them.. which was fine for them..

I replaced the Bridge and Middle with SD Alnico2s.. they are 4 con wiring (which is a lot thicker) the problem is that I only just managed to get the 2nd wire thru the hole to the control cavity...

I dont really want to make the hole bigger.. at all.. im thinking about putting a BK in the bridge.. just to see if it gives it that little extra magic. but is a 4 con BK wire or braided 2 thinner?..

also in a related question,i noticed when i put my Middle pickup in, the cable on a new SD only just reached.. the neck one would not stand a chance.. would Tim put a long (well longer if standard is not enough) cable on at request u think??

Cheers guys.
Dave.

Sounds like you put a bridge pickup in the middle position, that's why it had shorter wire.  A neck pickup's will be longer and BK neck leads are plenty long enough for LPs.

Braided wire is slimmer than 4 conductor if I remember rightly, but there's not a lot in it.

Was it used and cut short perhaps?

Yeah, are you sure it was a new pickup?  They normally have miles of cable, regardless of whether they're neck or bridge, and that includes Duncans.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

yea, it was a brand new sealed SD.. it had a long cable.. i was shocked.. but it must be the positioning of the cavity or something... when i put the pickup in the middle space. the cable just reached the correct pot for attaching.. their would have been no chance from the neck position
